Rainfall and lake level update as of February 9th, 2024
What a change from last year’s storms! We are rising at a nice pace and thankfully the rain has come in consistent and manageable for us here at Nacimiento. Although we have many creeks and rivers that flow in to Nacimiento, we usually focus on one since it’s the biggest into to lake and it’s the only one with a flowmeter.
Nacimiento Sapaque:
The main river filling Nacimiento, located in the “Narrows” or at the very tail end of the lake. It’s where we received the heaviest inflow. Our highest cfs (cubic feet per second) we experienced last week was 10,800. Imagine 10,800 basketballs flowing into the lake every second. (January of 2023, for example we hit 53,700 cfs overnight during the heaviest parts of the storm. It was A LOT.)
As of today, February 9th, 2024, we are up 15.75 vertical feet since the lowest point of 2023, on December 17th. We are at 73% capacity again and it looks nothing short of BEAUTIFUL out here!!! Check out our live webcam to see for yourself!
What does 73% capacity mean? We try our best to refer to what the percentages mean since Nacimiento really has a lot to offer at any level.
- Depth at the Dam is 165ft.
- Surface Area of the lake is 4805 acres.
- 16.9 miles long.
